We wouldn’t get much done if we didn’t have routines and habits that we manage on autopilot - whether they are all good for us is the question.
From the moment we wake up, we start managing our day. Based on habitual routines that once were new to us and took practice to achieve but now are second nature to us. Most of them we don’t even register that we are doing.
Trouble is! We often pick up bad habits on the way, shortcuts or quick fixes to make us feel better in the short term but are not healthy for us and can often prevent us from achieving our goals and dreams. It can feel like being punished when we try and change unhealthy habits. Feeling like we are missing out, deprived of the things we have come to know and love.
We can feel scared of letting go even though, in our hearts, we know the current situation is not working for us. It can seem like a humungous effort, an uphill struggle, so big a challenge that we don't know where to start or the point at times. Equally the fear of the humungous gap created in our lives often makes us choose to ignore the truth. Our minds fill with worries about the problems, the what if's, the unknowns and we stop and play it safe.
The truth is that something needs to change and that we are unhappy with the current situation.
You cannot create something better; you cannot create the life you want if your life has no room in it for the new.
Be prepared to let go of the old, and make room for the new.
